What is Bursitis?

Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa, a small fluid-filled sac located near joints. The sacs act as a cushion between bones and soft tissue. When the sacs become irritated or inflamed, it can cause pain swelling, and limited movement in the affected area. With bursitis in the feet, it is often found in the heel or big toe joint.

Causes

  • Overuse: Repetitive motion or excessive pressure
  • Injury: Direct impact or trauma to the foot
  • Foot structure: High arches, flat feet, or other structural irregularities
  • Footwear: Poorly fitting or unsupportive shoes
  • Medical conditions: Arthritis or other inflammatory conditions

There are several more causes to why you may get bursitis. Be cautious of the following symptoms so you can catch it before symptoms worsen.

Symptoms

  • Swelling or warmth
  • Stiffness or limited motion
  • Redness around the inflamed area
