What is a Plantar Wart?
Plantar Warts are rough growths that develop on the soles of the feet. They are normally rough and small on the areas that bear weight like the heels or balls of the feet. Plantar warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters the skin through tiny cuts or breaks. They can be painful, especially when standing or walking. Causes
- Warm, moist environments: HPV thrives in moist places, like swimming pools, locker rooms, and communal facilities
- Walking barefoot: Walking on contaminated surfaces barefoot
- Sweat feet: People with sweat feet are more likely to develop one
- Entry: HPV enters through small cuts, breaks, or weak spots on the skin
There are several other causes for why you may develop a plantar wart. Be cautious of the following symptoms so you can catch it quick.
Common Symptoms of Plantar Warts
- A Black point in the center of the wart
- Pain or tenderness when standing or walking
- A small or rough bump
- Thicnked skin around the wart
Plantar Wart Removal
luckily surgery is not needed, and the plantar wart removal process is very simple. One of our podiatrists will place a topical treatment on the infected area and should heal within two to three weeks. Never try to remove a plantar wart at home, contact our office to remove it for you!
