We often overlook our feet care until discomfort strikes, yet our feet carry us through life every day. Below you will find the top 5 common foot problems and how to keep your feet happy and healthy.

1. Plantar Fasciitistop 5 common foot problems

Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It results from inflammation of the tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes. Plantar Fasciitis can be caused by overuse, improper footwear, or prolonged standing.

Prevention Tips:

  • Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces.
  • Stretch your foot and calves daily.
  • Wear supportive footwear with adequate arch support.

2. Bunions

Bunions often lead to discomfort and difficulty walking. These bony bumps that form at the base of the big toe are often due to arthritis, genetics, or tight, narrow shoes.

Prevention Tips

  • Wear shoes with a wide toe box to give your toes room to spread.
  • Try to avoid wearing tight-fitting shoes or high heels
  • Consider using protection pads to cushion the bunion

3. Ingrown Toenails

Improper toenail trimming or tight footwear can lead to the edge of your toenail growing into the surrounding skin. Ingrown toenails can cause pain, redness, and sometimes infections.

Prevention Tips

  • Keep your feet clean and dry.
  • Trim your toenails straight across, and not rounded.
  • Wear proper fitting shoes.

4. Heel Spurs

Often associated with plantar fasciitis, heel spurs are calcium deposits that form on the underside of the heel bone. Heel spurs can also form from excessive strain on the foot.

Prevention Tips

  • Use orthotic insoles for better support.
  • Reduce stress on your feet by maintaining a healthy weight.
  • Incorporate low-impact activities into your routine like swimming or cycling.

5. Athlete's Foot

Athlete's foot is a final infection that thrives in warm, moist environments. This final infection can cause itching, redness, and peeling. Athlete's foot easily spreads in communal areas like locker rooms and pools.

Preventative Tips

  • Keep your feet clean and dry.
  • Wear moisture-wicking socks.
  • Use antifungal sprays or powder as needed.
