What is Gout? 

Gout is a type of arthritis that can affect anyone and causes sudden, severe pain, swelling, and redness in the foot joints. Gout commonly affects the big toe and other joints like the ankles, and knees. Gout forms when urate crystals build up in the joints, forming sharp crystals that accumulate in and around the joints. 

Causes of Gout

  1. Diet: A high intake of purine food, like meat, shellfish, alcohol, and some vegetables
  2. Medical Conditions: Diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease may contribute to gout
  3. Medications: Certain drugs that can elevate uric acid levels
  4. Family History: Genetics can play a role in developing gout
