Causes of Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails can be caused by several factors. Improperly trimming the nail too short or rounding the edges can cause skin to fold over the nail, leading to an ingrown toenail. Wearing shoes that are too tight or do not fit correctly can put pressure on the skin around the nail which can cause the nail to grow into the skin. Many other causes include thick toenails, toenail injury, genetics, nail infections, and deformed nails.
