Jones Fracture

The discoloration and pain may be a type of broken bone. Jones fractures happen when you break the bone that joins your pinkie toes to the base of your foot. Jones fractures are the most common fractures, especially in athletes, dancers, and people with jobs that are constantly on their feet. 

Symptoms of a Jones Fracture

  • Pain 
  • Swelling

  • Bruising or discoloration
  • A bump or deformity that's usually not present on your foot

Jones Fracture Causes

  • A sudden change in direction
  • Existing foot deformties
  • Previous fractures 

Treatment Options

  • Non-surgical: Rest, ice, elevation, and a cast or walking boot.
  • Surgical: If the bone is not healing properly, surgery may be necessary.
